All of our programs connect Duke college volunteers with local 4th-12th grade students for hands-on STEM learning opportunities. Below, you will find a brief description of each sub-program.
Please find specific information on each sub-program’s individual page by hovering over the FEMMES+ Programs tab.
After School Program
In this FREE 5-week after-school program, 4th-6th grade students will participate in hands-on activities introducing basic chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, and mathematics concepts. Students will be placed in small groups with a Duke undergraduate mentor who will help them with the activities and gaining an understanding of fundamental concepts.
Saturday Program
The Saturday series is held on Duke’s West Campus and integrates activities that parallel the ones we plan for the after-school program. However, instead of going to the elementary schools during the week, we invite 100 4th-6th graders to Duke to do the activities. This way, we are able to reach out to young students who do not attend the elementary schools with whom we have partnered with for our After-School program.
Families Moving Forward
This is the newest addition to FEMMES+ programming. Volunteering at the FMF center began in Spring 2025.
Connect
Connect is a mentorship program pairing a 7th-12th grade student with 2 Duke students to work on a yearlong research project.
Hacks Program
Hacks is a one-day hackathon-style event on Duke’s campus for high school students.
Capstone Program
Capstone is a one-day event on Duke’s campus offering 4th-6th grade students the opportunity to participate in interactive activities in different lab spaces and student organizations.
Summer Camp
FEMMES+ Summer Camp is a week-long day camp taking place on Duke’s campus the week before the university students’ first week of class.
FEMMES+ is open to all that support FEMMES+ mission, regardless of gender. All students are welcome to join. FEMMES+ adheres to and complies with Duke University’s non-discrimination policy.
