Congratulations to our rising star Evelyn Scarrow on graduating with a B.S. in Biology with distinction for the completion of her senior research thesis titled “Duchenne muscular dystrophy and the impact of dystrophin and utrophin deficiency in the neuro-respiratory control centers“.
Evelyn joined the lab in 2021 and worked on several projects on Pompe disease, Spinocerebellar Ataxia and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Her amazing work in the lab resulted in a co-authorship in a published paper and three under review manuscripts for submission.
This fall, Evelyn will be starting as a postbaccalaureate fellow within the National Eye Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, a stepping stone towards earning her MD PhD degree. The lab she is joining studies the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and its dysfunction in relation to both inherited and age-related diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration. The lab has focused on the RPE65 protein and the mutations that occur in the RPE65 gene, which is what she will continue to study using their mouse models and hopefully learning new techniques!
We are so proud of you, Evelyn and we will miss your positive energy in the lab!
