Welcome to the ElMallah Lab!

Our laboratory focuses on the control of breathing and pulmonary mechanics in several neuromuscular disorders such as Pompe disease, Duchenne Muscular Disorder, Spinocerebellar Ataxia, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Firstly, we focus on elucidating the extent of respiratory pathophysiology and neuromodulation that translate into respiratory deficiency using humanized murine models. Secondly, we examine the impact of next-generation muscle and CNS tropic AAV gene therapy to target respiratory and global pathology.

Mission Statement

Our overarching goal is to positively impact the lives of patients with neuromuscular diseases through scientific discovery. Our specific research focus is to elucidate mechanisms that contribute to respiratory insufficiency in neuromuscular disorders and to explore novel therapeutics to treat this pathology.
