  • Majors: Biology and Global Health
  • Minor: Computational Biology & Bioinformatics
  • Nadia’s primary interests are public health, journalism, biology, and policy. On campus, she is involved with The Chronicle, the Duke-Margolis Center, Mitchell-White House and volunteering. She served as President on the executive board of Bull City Scholars and taught the house course on education inequity in Durham Public Schools in spring 2021 and 2022.

  • Sophia is a senior from Rye, New York, majoring in English with a Certificate in Markets & Management. On campus, she has been involved in the Duke Student Alumni Board, the line monitors, Duke Business Society, and The Archive. She plans to work at Oliver Wyman as a management consultant after graduation. In her free time, she enjoys visiting museums, traveling, poetry, and photography.

Cecilia de la Guardia Ceci de la Guardia

  • Majors: Economics and Public Policy
  • Certificate: Energy and Environment
  • Ceci is passionate about  leveraging market and policy solutions to combat the climate crisis and transform global energy systems.  Ceci has been involved in the Duke Energy Club, as a tutor and teaching assistant for economics, and as an instrumentalist with Small Town Records.  After researching the renegotiation of the treaty on the Itaipu Binational Dam with Duke Engage, she pursued energy and climate related internships with Terrafuse AI, Fervo Energy, and 8 Rivers.

 

 

Nicole Izquierdo 2023Nicole

  • Hometown: Miami, Florida
  • Major: Psychology
  • During her time at Duke, Nicole has gained research and clinical experience. She is conducting her senior thesis on Latinx identity development in children. She has been a research assistant for several labs, most notably the Duke Identity & Diversity lab and the Duke Eating Disorder lab. She will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology this upcoming May. Post-graduation, she will either enroll in a Masters in Counseling program or work full-time in a hospital/private practice setting. She is Cuban American, born and raised in Miami, Florida. As a first generation Latina student, she hopes to address the mental health disparities present in marginalized communities, especially the Latinx one.

 

Maya Lytje 2023Maya

  • Hometown: Melrose, Massachusetts
  • Majors: Public Policy and Linguistics
  • Certificate: Human Rights
  • Maya is a senior studying Public Policy, Linguistics, and Human Rights. At Duke, Maya works as a research assistant in Sanford and at Outdoor Adventures. She is also president of Define America and co-editor in chief of Borderless. She grew up in the Boston area and will be moving back to Boston after graduation to work for the law firm Mintz for two years before attending Harvard Law School.

 

Karam Oubari

  • Hometown: Bend, Oregon
  • Major: Public Policy
  • Minors: Economics and Political Science
  • Karam is a Syrian-American senior studying Public Policy. During his time at Duke, he has been involved in the Arab Student Organization, democracy research, volunteering in the refugee community, studying abroad in Glasgow, and the Hart Leadership Program, among other things. He enjoys traveling, adventures in the outdoors, and reading. After graduation he will be working as a social impact consultant.
