A Letter from the Director

Dear Scholars, Family, and Friends,

I am pleased to welcome you to the University Scholars Program’s website–a resource we will use to keep you up-to-date on all the exciting and impressive accomplishments of our students, both past and present.

As a program dedicated to fostering interdisciplinarity throughout Duke University’s varied fields of study, service, and extracurricular activities, the University Scholars Program attracts undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who are as talented as they are creative, who are as well-rounded as they are attuned to the details of their scholarly work, and who are as hard working as they are fun.  With such a diverse and capable group, I never cease to be impressed with all the interesting and effective projects and activities they are up to.

With that in mind, I would encourage you to check back often, to subscribe to our blog, to be ready for stories and photos that come from our students who make contributions to the arts, the sciences, the social sciences, engineering and the humanities all over the world.  From working with traditional birth attendants in India to developing an easier way for scholars to use sound in their research projects here in Durham to spearheading testing on infectious disease in Togo, our students bring together an unbelievable amount of energy and creativity.

University Scholars have the occasion to share these kind of volunteer and research experiences with the USP community at our regular seminars and annual symposia. We are pleased to share their endeavors with a broader audience through our new website. So, stay tuned!

With best wishes for a healthy, happy academic year,
