Babu Regmi, Class of 2020, wins prestigious Yenching Scholarship

Bigyan (Babubabu) Regmi is a graduating senior University Scholar in the Class of 2020.  Babu has been named a Yenching Scholar, a prestigious fellowship for master’s degree students at Yenching Academy at Peking University in Beijing, China.

Babu grew up in Ghorka, a rural region of Nepal, and was fortunate to earn a scholarship to study first in Kathmandu, and then in the United Kingdom as a Pestalozzi Scholar.   He came to Duke determined to gain critical knowledge and skills that would allow him to return to his home country of Nepal and make a positive difference.  During his breaks from school, he returned home to work with government officials to learn about Nepal’s most pressing needs, moderated a global goals conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and a week-long nationwide health policy conference in Nepal.

Armed with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Duke and a master’s degree in China studies in economics with a focus on Sino-Nepal relations, Babu plans to become a policy leader in Nepal, making decisions to advance his country in international development.
