The DIRECT Fellowship program was developed to promote cancer research equity among minority trainees through mentorship, professional development, and science communication. This 12-month applied research opportunity aims to create a diverse, innovative, and impactful experience in cancer research workforce.

Training in health disparities, strutural racism, & racial equity

Have a record of superior academic achievement (e.g., grade point average, honors, or other designation), received a bachelors degree by June, AND meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Come from a background that is underrepresented in graduate study in your discipline
  • Have demonstrated a sustained commitment to diversity through work experience, volunteer engagement, or leadership of student or community organizations. A commitment to diversity may include efforts to reduce health, social, educational or economic disparities by race, ethnicity or gender
  • Have experienced financial hardship as a result of family economic circumstances
  • Be a first-generation U.S. citizen or first generation in your family to graduate from a four-year college
