My name is Sameer Swarup and I am a marine conservation data scientist. Prior to
joining the Ocean Synthesis lab, I was working as a data scientist in San Francisco and the
Maldives. My research was focused on fostering partnerships between indigenous
communities and policymakers and building statistical models to evaluate the biodiversity
impacts of MPAs. I am excited to continue this work with the Ocean Synthesis lab! I am
currently working on evaluating the biodiversity and socioeconomic impacts of MPAs in West
Papua, Indonesia.
