Project discussion/workshop

The goal of this class session is to find project partners. For your project, you will work in groups of 2 or 3.

If you have an idea

Create a 5-10 minute presentation to pitch to the rest of the class. This will be both to get feedback on your idea from the class and to see if anyone would like to join you on this project, assuming you can accommodate more people. Alternatively, if there are three of you and a fourth wants to join you could split into two pairs.

It should contain the following sections:

  1. Title slide with names of all currently in the project
  2. Overview of the data set you plan to use
  3. Research question(s) you want to investigate

If you do not have an idea

  1. Reflect on what you found interesting so far in the class
  2. Then create a mind map of your current interests in the class and potential research ideas
    1. Here is a quick guide on how to mind map
  3. Take a picture of your mind map and put it in your QQC doc
  4. Come ready to listen, ask questions, and find a partner/group to work with.

Grading

  • Exemplary (10 points) – You presented OR created a mindmap and it clearly shows more than 10 minutes of effort.
  • Satisfactory (9 points) – You created a mindmap. It has some ideas but is not very filled out.
  • Not yet (6 points) – There is a mindmap, but it is very sparse and could have been written in 5 minutes or less.
  • Unassessable (2 points) – There is a mindmap but it does not fulfill the Not yet criteria.

Regrade

You may redo the work and request a single regrade to update your grade.
