  • Explain what a stem cell is and its role in neurogenesis
  • Describe the process of protein synthesis
  • Describe the different phases of the cell cycle
  • Explain the basic steps in cell division
  • Explain how a cell dies
  • Describe how protons behave in a magnetic field
  • Explain why hydrogen atoms in the body are the sources of MRI signals
  • Compare and contrast the effects of alcohol on an adolescent versus an adult

After participating in this module, it is expected that students may be able to:

  • Explain the difference between short and long-term memory
  • Plan an experiment to test whether hippocampal damage is the cause or the effect of excessive alcohol drinking
  • Develop an experimental plan to determine if hippocampal damage associated with drinking alcohol is reversible
