We had so many things to celebrate these last months that it is hard to keep track. But let’s try:
- Dr. Gustavo Silva was promoted to associate professor with tenure! He also received the 2024 Paul T. Englund Emerging Scholar Award from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and was named among the top 5% undergraduate instructors in the Natural Sciences.
- Austin Maduka is now Dr. Maduka and successfully defended his PhD! His paper is on biorxiv!
- Shannon Dougherty also defended her PhD is also now Dr. Dougherty! Her paper is also on biorxiv!
- Clara Santos passed her prelim and is now a PhD candidate in Biology! Her first first-author paper is now published in JBC. Clara was also accepted and attended the 2024 ABRCMS Leadership Development Academy.
- Dr. Gessica Barros attended the 2024 Cold Spring Harbor Conference on Translation Control.
- Blanche Cizubu has been promoted and is our newest Lab Manager.
We also welcome many new lab members to the lab!
- Dr. Tonie Farris joined us a postdoctoral fellow studying the development of UBE2A deficiency syndrome!
- Jorge Mato Frontela, Alyssa Estrada, Joy Buchi-Ahiabuike, and Neil Nimmagadda are our newest undergrads!
- Silas Almeida (Unicamp – BEPE Scholar) and Lubhanshi Garg (Tata Institute – Fulbright Fellow) are our graduate visiting scholars!
- Dr. Chia-Yu Chen joined us as our biostatistician!
- Meg Atchison joined us as our admin assistant!
- We also have Melissa Aldana and Haleigh Wooters rotating with us this semester!.
We also want to say farewell to our incredible undergraduate student Sofia Guerrero who is now a PhD student in the Neuroscience Program at Stanford! Congratulations!!
