This quilt is inspired by Meaghan’s encounter with a young girl born with a kidney anomaly that has led to the development of end-stage renal disease. The patches of the quilt have a two-fold significance: first, the patchwork of times she has had to be admitted to the hospital for various related medical issues and infections, and secondly, the array of healthcare workers—child life specialists, nurses, and doctor whose lives she has touched with her cheerful smile and exuberant disposition.
About the Artist: Meaghan O’Connor
Meaghan O’Connor is a rising second-year medical student. Though still uncertain as to what specialty she is interested in, she loves working with children and seeing their joy and wonder at the world, even in the face of heart wrenching situations. Outside of medical school, Meaghan enjoys running, reading, hiking, and creating meals to share with friends.
