Dance for Parkinson’s

Here is another great volunteering opportunity for the month of May! Especially if you love dancing! See the “Dance for Parkinson’s Flyer” for more information.

Dance for Parkinson’s Flyer

Hi! Our Dance for Parkinson’s class is an opportunity for those with Parkinson’s, their caregivers, and volunteers to come together and dance. Our class incorporates various styles of dance and genres of music through a combination of choreographed and improvisational movement. The class is designed to support the specific needs of those with Parkinson’s, but our main focus is on the elements of dance, such as rhythm, quality of movement, and expression. Volunteers assist with set-up and being extra pairs of eyes to maintain participant safety, while participating fully in our class!

If you are interested in joining us, please email me at lindsayvoorhees@alumni.duke.edu. Our current series goes through May 29th and classes take place at ADF Studios on Fridays, from 1-2:15. We ask that volunteers arrive 15 minutes early so we can meet you and get the room set up.

Thanks,
Lindsay Voorhees

Special Olympics FUNfitness!!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We need PTs, PTAs, and students (PT and PTA), to help with FUNfitness screenings at the Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games at NCSU in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, May 30th.

We also need non-clinical volunteers (friends, co-workers, family) to help with registration of the athletes and flow within the screening area.

This is the first screening that we will be doing not in conjunction with any competition. We will be providing screenings for delegations staying on campus Saturday night. We hope that this will allow for a bigger turn out and more screenings!

FUNfitness is a program developed by APTA for the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes initiative. All volunteers will receive a Healthy Athletes t-shirt and dinner! For more information, please click here.

We hope you can take part!  Also, licensed staff, you can enter these hours on your continuing competence reporting for North Carolina!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions at ncfunfitness@gmail.com
Thank you and hope to see you there!
