Jon Carter

Biomedical Engineering Major

Jon Carter is a Gates scholar, who plans on majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a pre-med focus. He’s been aiding in research at Duke since his high school career starting with researching age-related effects on cell growth. Amidst researching the effects of rheumatoid arthritis on skeletal muscle his freshman year, he also joined Duke’s Rowing Team and with his team earned a medal at the Head of the Hooch Regatta. He is also a member of the Alpha Alpha Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He has also played jazz guitar throughout much of high school and received many outstanding soloist and group awards at several jazz festivals around the country. One of his hobbies include building boats and has currently finished a two-person rowboat and a 12ft kayak, both made out of wood.
