Frequently Asked Questions

Here is information about LLCs from Duke’s HRL site:

“Duke University offers numerous opportunities for interested students to partake in intentionally designed Living Learning communities (LLCs) that incorporate the residential component of the college experience along with other academic and social pursuits. While membership in these groups may be limited, activities offered are often open to the general student population. LLCs are sponsored, resourced, and facilitated by a university department or office, often in conjunction with faculty partners. Students apply to join these communities and are selected by the sponsoring office.”

The Mitchell-White House is currently located on the third and fourth floors of Keohane 4E, on west campus.

Interested students can join the Mitchell-White House beginning sophomore year until senior year.

Selectivity each year depends on the number of bed spaces we are allotted by Housing and Residence Life and the number of people who are interested in joining.

During spring semester we will release an application to become a member of the LLC! In addition, we will host recruitment events on both campuses to get to know prospective members.

Keohane 4E has single room, double room, and suite style room options.

Living in the Mitchell-White house grants you access to a community that emphasizes Black excellence on Duke’s campus, hosts events,  and allows you to make new friends!

House members are required to a take a House course their first year in the house, as per Duke LLC policy. In addition, members must attend general body meetings and events, and respect other community members.
