NORA ZUBIZARRETA

Near Nowhere

Moving through invented landscapes, Near Nowhere explores wondering and wandering in the natural world. My projects seek to open-up affective spaces before and beyond verbal language. Near Nowhere plays with the fragmented but continuous nature of the experiential, examining the lively tension present in both the landscapes and human relationships with nature.

Nora Zubizarreta is a filmmaker and photographer based in Durham, NC. Her practice is rooted in analog filmmaking and photography techniques and her work is haunted by ideas of our natural environments and how we interact with them. She is fascinated in how the camera can be used to share and embrace perspective. Nora received her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she produced the Student Academy Award winning film, Umama. She went on to work professionally in film and television production working in roles from production coordinator to line producer, on projects ranging from branded documentaries, to Comedy Central TV shows, to independent films. Currently, Nora is pursuing her MFA at Duke University in Experimental and Documentary Arts. Her video work has recently been published as a companion piece to a poem in the Denver Quarterly Fives. When she’s not preoccupied with filming or photographing, you might find her on a trapeze.
