Mark Twain’s observation and today’s foreign policy
Over on Just Security I have a new article, “Why the Foreign Policy Sky is Not Falling,” which is in response to a recent essay by Michael Fuchs, who is a Senior Fellow at American Progress, and also one by Harvard Law’s Jack Goldsmith. Both of their essays foresee nothing but bleakness for America’s standing in the world. I steal the theme of my article from Mark Twain to suggest that reports of the U.S.’s demise as an effective foreign policy leader are – at this early point anyway – “greatly exaggerated.”
Anyway, you may want to check it out here. Compare the respective assessments and, as we like to say here at Lawfire, make your own judgement!
