  1. Hello. More a question than a response. I will retire soon from my position as a trial court judge in Massachusetts. Have a long-standing interest in the political process and earned an MPA degree from the Kennedy School before taking the bench. I am interested in learning more about volunteer or other opportunities in the area of election monitoring. Any insight or guidance you might provide would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Best wishes.

    1. James, good places to contact might be Democracy International, the Carter Center, the National Democratic Institute and the International Republican Institute. These all recruit US observers. Good luck. It sounds like you have a lot of valuable expertise.

  7. We had a problem of democratic governance and rule of the law in most African countries, where most of theirs leaders tends to remain in power by force and not by their constitutional. Majority of them have been elected by corruption, miss use of public funds, break their constitution and abuse of human rights. Their citizens who demand for a free elections and freedom of expression has been called including journalists. The media has been put into custody.
Democracy is viewed as a system of constituting government authority and making that authority accountable to the citizens. This is achieved by ensuring that “rulers” are elected periodically by the votes of the “ruled” through free and fair elections, in which virtually the entire adult population is eligible to vote. Hence, a modern nation state is deemed to have a democratic political system only if its government is selected through honest, fair and periodic elections, in which candidates freely compete for votes. According to this definition, elections are regarded as essence of democracy.
My question is that how many countries in African has free and fair election commission and has conducted fair and free elections. Take an example in Burundi and recently in Uganda and my country Tanzania.as well as the comment made at AU Summit 2016 by African leaders who were criticized the ICC and UN Security Council that is not supporting them, many of them condemned how it works because among the African leaders there’s a big of dictators.

  8. As civil society organization, we are totally in support of your work in promoting good governance around the world and rule of law for every society. We would like to join hands with your organization in the future endeavor, if the need arises.

  9. Dan,

thank you very much with concern in inviting me to participate on this issue of election observation.
The non-governmental organization are the key organizations that should be shoulder with the responsibilities of monitoring election in any part of the world.

    thank you

  10. Thanks soo much inviting our organization to partner with your organization to ensure that African Countries conduct free and fair elections. I sincerely thank your organization for the good work you’re doing to ensure free and fair elections globally. When we focus in African, most seating Presidents violets democracy of people excercised at the ballot box, by angeging in malpractice that leads to unfair and not free practices during election. For instance our minds are still fresh on what happenned in Kenya 2007, Burundi last year, and what we show in Uganda afew days ago this year. If all African seating presidents can respect the rule of law, respect human rights excercised during elections, then African can nolonger loss innocent citizens merely because of unfair and not free elections. Its good your organization has identified the serious problem African countries are faced with during elections, that has lead to poor leadership, hence leading to poor socio-economic growth. Through your monitoring efforts, cases of unfair and not free election can be identified and reduced. I’m ready together with my organization to collaborate with your organization to ensure our beloved country Kenya excercises free and fair come August 2017, all African countries and globally. The survey link is not accessable, kindly check where problem is. I look for more information on how we can work with you. Thanks soo much. By Joseph Kariuki Omuya, Founder and CEO The President Barack Obama Junior Africa Foundation.
