Trainees for this program are accepted on the basis of research proposals focused on one of four fields of study, including Transfusion Medicine and Hemoglobinopathies (Track I); Hemostasis & Thrombosis (Track II), Hematopoiesis & Cellular Therapy (Track III), and Molecular Biology, Signaling & Genetics (Track IV). Post-doctoral fellows interested in a 2 year research program, or medical students interested in a summer fellowship, submit a formal application to the program. Applications are reviewed each spring by the T32 Executive Committee (EC), who notifies trainees of acceptance. Trainees assemble scholarship oversight committees (SOC) consisting of a mentor, a member of the EC and one other scientist in a related-field of research. T32 are expected to participate in career development activities and present twice a year at T32 Research Meetings attended by their SOC, EC and their peers. Trainees are also expected to present a brief 10 minute presentation at the Annual Research Retreat held by the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.
