Medical Student Qualifications

1) Interest in transfusion medicine and/or benign hematology

2) Strong interest in basic biomedical research, clinical research, or health services/outcome research in the fields of transfusion medicine and hematology; research experience and prior productivity a plus;

3) Demonstrated past excellence in previous endeavors, including undergraduate studies for medical students and medical school.

4) Only applicants who are United States citizens or permanent residents and who express the desire of pursuing an academic research career in this country are considered candidates for acceptance.

Duration of Training and Effort Allocation

  • Students are expected to pursue full-time (40 hours/week) research for a minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks.
  • Attend educational activities associated with affiliated research tracks, attend weekly Hematology Conferences (Tuesday AM) and Hematology Research Seminars (Friday PM) as well as T32 research-in-progress meetings.
  • At the completion of the summer research program, submit a 1-2 page research summary of their project to the Program Director including brief descriptions of background, methods, results and discussion.
