Requirements

Please read all texts assigned for each week, paying particular attention to parts of the readings that touch, or seem to touch, on the rubrics listed in the Syllabus as “Some topics for discussion.” Starting on the third week of class, readings will be interpreted, studied and reviewed through seminar discussions: be ready to present, and introduce to the attention of the class, one or several notes that seem particularly important to you. Presentations do not need to be long or elaborate, and can be limited to posing questions. They will serve as points of entry for our discussions. Also required is a final research paper (5-10 pages for undergraduates; 12-18 for graduates), on a topic discussed in advance with the class. We will use the tenth week of class to brainstorm on possible research topics.
