Chapter 3: Effects of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure on Brain Development and Post-Natal Function

This chapter describes how the brain develops normally and how alcohol exposure in utero affects several different areas of the fetal brain. Each area affected can explain the deficits in the behavioral and learning dysfunction in the child later in life.  With newer brain imaging techniques it possible to actually see the damage that occurs in different parts of the brain.
