Chapter 2: Pattern of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure Determines the FASD Phenotype

This chapter discusses how the timing of drinking during pregnancy causes different phenotypes (what we see) to occur in the child exposed prenatally to alcohol.  Contrary to popular belief, fetal exposure to alcohol throughout all 3 trimesters can result in brain damage.  In contrast, exposure of the fetus during the first trimester can lead to the facial and musculoskeletal deformities (along with brain damage).
