Assignments

IMPORTANT: You MUST take the Syllabus Quiz on Canvas by Wednesday May 22nd at midnight.

Be sure to download, view, and do all parts for each assignment.  Most importantly, after you are finished, open Canvas and take the accompanying quiz.  YOU MUST TAKE THE QUIZ to get credit for each exercise.  You do not hand in anything OTHER than the quiz.  You may take the homework quiz as many times as you want before the deadline.

Important Information regarding Canvas – Please do not wait until the last minute to submit assignment quizzes.  Each quiz is set to automatically stop accepting answers at the exact due date and time (please take into consideration that you might be in a different time zone) regardless of whether you are finished with the answers or not.  When Canvas provides the option of saving (there might be buttons such as “SAVE” or “NEXT”) after each answer, be sure to do so.   If you are cut off by the deadline through Canvas, only saved answers up to that moment of time will be counted.  Be aware that Canvas creates log entries every time you login, open and finish a quiz, and log out, keeping track of your Canvas activities.

EVEN MORE IMPORTANT.- It is ESSENTIAL that you are signed into Canvas only ONCE on only ONE device at a time.  Canvas will only record and count activities since the latest login.  This means that if you have Canvas open twice (say once on your laptop and once on your phone), only one of these will be recorded.  In the past, students have confused which Canvas they were using and their answers were NOT recorded.   DO NOT make this mistake (it is not an acceptable excuse to miss a homework or redo an exam).  Be sure to LOGOUT of Canvas each time (rather than just closing the window) you are finished with it and to login anew before you take quizzes and exams.  DO NOT LET CANVAS RUN IN THE BACKGROUND UNTOUCHED IN SOME MINIMIZED WINDOW OR HAVE IT OPEN ON TWO DEVICES AT THE SAME TIME, as this quickly leads to the scenario described above.  So before signing into Canvas be sure to check whether it is already running on your device, or another device.  I strongly urge you NOT to you use Canvas on your cell-phone.  A significant number of people who do so, have run into the above described problems using that media.

Missed Homeworks or Poor Performance.- Late homeworks will not be accepted. At the end of the semester, you can request to make-up or retake ONE homework assignments of your choice (missed, late, or just to raise your score).  This option will be available June 20th-21st.  Requests for make-ups or redoes MUST BE RECEIVED by June 19th at midnight.  Details will follow on how to do this.

You will need to download and install Google Earth Pro on your laptop/desktop before doing Homeworks #1 and #5.  Navigation in Google Earth is much easier with the use of a separate mouse (at least to me).
