Colby Cheshire Colby Cheshire

  • Hometown: Mont Belvieu, Texas
  • Majors: Biology and French Studies
  • Minor: Chemistry
  • Colby is a junior majoring in biology and French and has experience working in labs at both Duke and the University of Michigan. Ultimately, he plans to pursue a career at the intersection of healthcare and genetics. On campus, Colby is involved with Matriculate, Crisis Text Line, and Vertices. In his free time, Colby enjoys hiking, trying new restaurants, and planning his next trip.

 

Aiden Fox Aiden Fox

  • Hometown: Boise, Idaho
  • Major: Program II in “Food and Agricultural Studies: How Science and Technology, Culture, and Policy affect the Production of Food”
  • Aiden has a passion for nearly any topic related to food systems and nutrition. This past summer he worked as an agroecology fellow for the Center for Environmental Farming Systems at NCSU, and he’s also worked at the David Lab for Gut Microbiome Research at Duke. He is currently a research assistant at the World Food Policy Center at Sanford School of Public Policy. In his free time, Aiden loves sharing meals with friends and colleagues, playing basketball and volleyball, rock climbing, and spending time outdoors.

 

Foxx Hart Foxx Hart

  • Hometown: South Easton, Massachusetts
  • Major: Global Cultural Studies
  • Minor:  Statistical Science
  • Foxx is interested in mixed-methods approaches to the sociology of class, education, and public (mental) health. They aspire to a career in interdisciplinary research and policy. Foxx has done NIH sponsored research in biostatistics at the University of Michigan and conducted research on big data and reproductive health and on developing nursing resources for LGBTQ+ older adults through Bass Connections at Duke. In their free time, they enjoy running, playing retro video games, and (re)watching RuPaul’s Drag Race.

 

Lexi Jackson 2024Lexi

  • Hometown: Wake Forest, North Carolina
  • Major: Public Policy
  • Minor: Political Science
  • Certificate: Markets & Management
  • Lexi is interested in the intersection of social policy and the corporate world. On-campus she is involved in the American Futures Institute, where she researches various policies and partners with companies from an array of backgrounds. She also is involved in the Delta Sigma Pi student business group and Duke Impact Investment Group. She participated in leadership development with two consulting firms, Bain and McKinsey and was a summer business analyst with McKinsey in summer 2022.

 

Aden Klein

  • Hometown: Sevierville, Tennessee
  • Majors: Economics, Public Policy
  • Minor: Political Science
  • Aden’s work focuses on the intersections of business, policy, and government. He has spent time working with state and local governments throughout the southeast on energy, education, and health policy. His research as part of David Hoffman’s Technology Policy centers around the intersections of technology with healthcare and national security, particularly legal and policy mechanisms to protect mental health and military data from sale and exploitation. He has also spent time working in the House of Representatives for Representative Sharice Davids and with the North Carolina General Assembly as both a campaign manager and deputy chief of staff for Representative Zack Hawkins.

 

Nadeska Montalvan Nadeska Montalvan

  • Hometown: Miami, Florida
  • Majors: Chemistry and Computer Science
  • Minor: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
  • Nadeska is a Latina first-generation student of Nicaraguan heritage. She has a passion for biochemical research and has been an undergraduate research assistant in the Hargrove Lab since the summer after her freshman year. She wants to pursue a career as a biochemist/scientist. She has also been a TA for the computer science department since the beginning of her junior year. During her free time, Nadeska likes to go on runs around campus and participate in service-based extracurriculars. She is a part of GANO and FEMMES+. She is also serving as President of Bull City Scholars, a student group committed to working with children in under-resourced middle schools in Durham.

 

Yuna Oh Yuna Oh

  • Major: Environmental Science & Policy
  • Minor: Biology
  • Certificate: Energy and the Environment
  • Yuna is from Apple Valley, California, and is interested in pursuing a major in environmental sciences and policy. She currently works as an intern for the City of Raleigh’s Office of Sustainability. Her hobbies include composting, binging tv shows, and skating.  She spent spring 2022 at the Duke University Marine Lab.

 

Nathan Ostrowski 2023Nathan

  • Hometown: Davidson, North Carolina
  • Major: Computer Science
  • Nathan Ostrowski comes from Davidson, NC, and is passionate about making a difference in the world using tech. At Duke, Nathan is involved with Duke Catalyst, Duke Cyber Team, The Wired Lab, Duke AGS, and Duke’s entrepreneurial community. After his first year, he took a year off Duke to work full-time at a startup and live with a group of founders in California. Nathan is studying abroad in Paris in fall 2022 and may end up adding a French minor to his academic repertoire.

 

Keri Tomechko Keri Tomechko 2023

  • Hometown: Akron, Ohio
  • Major: Program II in Maternal Health and Developmental Biology
  • Keri is a junior from Akron, Ohio studying a Program II major in Maternal Health & Developmental Biology. She is interested in maternal and reproductive health, mental health, and the interactions between lifestyle factors, healthcare delivery, patient experience, and health outcomes. Outside of academics, Keri finds joy in teaching, tutoring/mentoring, and being active. Keri is president of The Flow, Duke’s student-run reproductive health journal and magazine, leads group fitness classes at Wilson Rec, and volunteers with FEMMES+, Notable Narratives, and Camp Kesem. Keri plans on attending medical school and is currently dreaming of being an emergency medicine or reproductive endocrinology & infertility physician, but her interests are dynamic and open; she is excited to see where her passions take her!

 

Amy Weng Amy Weng

  • Hometown: Anaheim, California
  • Major: Computer Science
  • Minor: Medieval & Renaissance Studies
  • Certificate: Information Science & Studies
  • Amy’s main academic interest lies in exploring how computational methodologies can be used effectively for historical and literary research. She has participated in the Bass Connections project “Ethical Consumption Before Capitalism” (2021-2022), the Data+ project of the same name (summer 2022), and the Early Modern London project (2022-2023). For all three projects, she has applied natural language processing and traditional close readings to investigate 17th century English texts.
