PSALMS 58, 147:1-11; ISAIAH 6: 1-13; 2 THESSALONIANS 1:1-12; JOHN 7:53 – 8:11

Sometimes I wonder why it is that we praise an omniscient God. If God knows the deepest desires of our hearts than why would They need us to sing praises? After all, “Great is our Lord and mighty in power, their understanding has no limit.” Only recently have I begun to understand that praise is not for God’s benefit but for our own. We praise God because it helps us to better know the immensity of what has been done for us. Praise allows us to recognize the gifts that we have been given as children of God. The people of Israel were blessed by God’s power so they praised Them in all that they did. God also finds great joy in praise. Does a mother not delight in hearing her child say, “I love you”? Is a father’s heart not filled when their child says, “I want to be just like you”? In the same way, God finds joy in his children putting their hope in God’s unfailing love.
