Physician and author Terrence Holt, MD, PhD, will present and read from his new book, Internal Medicine: A Doctor’s Stories, from noon-1 p.m, on Tuesday February 3, in the Duke Hospital Lecture Hall (room 2002). The event is part of the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine; lunch will be provided.
The Washington Post’s Susan Okie wrote that Internal Medicine “ captures the feelings of a young doctor’s three-year hospital residency-the powerlessness, the exhaustion, the chaotic and seemingly endless shifts, and above all, the intensity of being with people in moments of extremity-better than anything else I have ever read.” Holt practices geriatric medicine at UNC Chapel Hill, where he also directs a new interdisciplinary MA curriculum in the medical humanities.
