Visions of Freedom Community recruiting new members
Interested in politics, economics, philosophy, or ethics? Do you want to live with students who share these interests next year? Consider joining the Visions of Freedom Living Learning Community (LLC), an undergraduate program funded in part by the American Values and Institutions Program.
The Visions of Freedom LLC is a group of Duke students with a passion for politics, philosophy, and economics. They believe that the best conversations don’t always happen in the classroom, and have created a new space for not-too-serious intellectual conversations. Members of the community explore their shared interests during social events, informal meals, a house course, discussion groups, and off campus trips. Last semester, the LLC took a weekend trip to the North Carolina mountains.
Now in its third year, the Visions of Freedom LLC is located in Edens 1A, a convenient location boasting Pitchforks, Bella Union, The Bolt, and its own gym. Any current Duke undergraduate is invited to apply.
If this sounds like the type of community you want to be a part of, come to our Open House on Thursday, January 24th at 7:30pm in Edens 1A to learn about the program, meet current members, hear about other recruitment events, and enjoy food from Heavenly Buffaloes. The rest of the schedule is here (all events located in Edens 1A):
- Thursday, January 31 at 8 pm: board game night
- Sunday, February 3 at noon: Monuts brunch and student-led discussion
- Tuesday, February 5 at 8pm: Black Mirror screening with discussion
- Friday, February 8 at midnight: VOF LLC application due
The selection procedure is NOT A RUSH PROCESS. If you’re interested, you have just as good of a chance as anyone else. You can also bring a roommate with you who does not join the LLC. Additionally, it is possible to be both in an SLG/Greek life org and be in the LLC.
You can learn more by checking out our website and our video. Thanks and see you at the Open House!
