Luke Bretherton: Political Theory Workshop – January 28, 2016
On January 28, Luke Bretherton will be discussing his new book, Resurrecting Democracy: Faith, Citizenship and the Politics of a Common Life (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2014), focusing particularly on Chapter Seven, “Sovereignty and Consociational Democracy.” The book provides a case study of the Industrial Areas Affiliate London Citizens in order to examine the legacy of Saul Alinky and the ways in which faith-based community organizing can help citizens re-imagine democracy in an increasingly global world. Bretherton is a Professor of Theological Ethics at the Duke Divinity School and a Senior Fellow at the Kenan Institute of Ethics. We will meet in SSRI-Gross Hall 230E from 4:00-5:30.
