Rare Disease Day Tabling

What if a mammogram could not detect your breast cancer?
Rare Disease Day tabling event shares information.
In commemoration of International Rare Disease Day on February 28th, the Duke Consortium for Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) partnered with Duke University undergraduate and graduate students to host a unique, student-driven tabling event. Our goal is to develop educational tools for patients, physicians, researchers and community members to raise awareness for rare cancers like IBC, which is also designated a cancer health disparity by NIH.

At this interactive table on Bryan Center Plaza, students, faculty and research staff worked together to share information about Rare Cancers and how to get involved with the Consortium members at Duke University, North Carolina Central University, University of North Carolina, and the Durham Community.  More than 150 people, including students, faculty and Duke leadership, stopped by to learn more.  64 undergraduates signed up to join a new student coalition being formed for rare cancers, assist with fundraising, advocacy or research, and/or to enter a raffle, which included Duke mugs, shirts, and even a Duke basketball jersey just in time for the upcoming Duke-UNC game!
