In our previous post we announced that the Center for Research Libraries at our request through Sean Swanick at Duke University Library scanned a number of microfilms of al-Waqāʾiʿ al-Miṣriyya. To our great pleasure, CRL recently notified us that they scanned additional issues.
The new issues online are in the following periods:
24 Rabīʿa Awwal 1245 / 23 October 1829 – 29 Dhū al-Ḥijja 1245 / 21 June 1830
21 Rabīʿa al-Ākhar 1247 / 29 September 1831 – 25 Jumādā al-Ākhar 1248/19 November 1832
10 Shawwāl 1248 / 2 March 1833 – 20 Rabīʿ al-Ākhar 1249/6 September 1833
One issue from 1837 (6 Shawwāl 1252/14 January 1837)
Some issues from 1840 (12 Jumādā al-Ūlā 1256 etc)
One issue from 1843
One issue from 1844
The reformed WM with new header, enriched content, and extended pages from 1844.
Importantly the “calendar” or “browse” view does not give you full access at present – for instance if you go to 1833 in the calendar view no issue is indicated. In order to access these newly scanned items do the following. At this link you have to click on contents on the left side of the PDF viewer. Browsing down you will find all the above issues.
To sum up, this new batch makes that now we have an almost complete set of early issues online available between Oct 1829 and Sept 1833. The CRL full set for this period is:
24 Rabīʿa Awwal 1245 / 23 October 1829 – 29 Dhū al-Ḥijja 1245 / 21 June 1830
[In BnF collection: 7 Rajab – 29 Dhu al-Hijja 1245 = January-June for the Gregorian year of 1830]
3 Muḥarram 1246/24 June 1830 – 24 Shawwāl 1246 / 7 April 1831
21 Rabīʿa al-Ākhar 1247 / 29 September 1831 – 25 Jumādā al-Ākhar 1248/19 November 1832
10 Shawwāl 1248 / 2 March 1833 – 20 Rabīʿ al-Ākhar 1249/6 September 1833
It would be crucial to complete the online available issues further in the 1830s and 1840s.
