In order to keep up with changing trends as well as security needs, we occasionally re-evaluate every theme and plugin on Sites @Duke Express. We look at total usage of the theme/plugin on Sites Express as well as the state of support through wordpress.org, including frequency/lack of updates and total number installs around the world.
Specifically, we used the following criteria:
- No longer available on wordpress.org
- No longer actively maintained by its developers
- Does not meet our security requirements
- Very low usage (<20 activations) on Sites Express
After creating our list of plugins and themes to remove, we initially notified via email in mid-April every site administrator for each affected site. Two sets of follow-up emails were sent as well.
