Optical Media (CDs & DVDs)

Notes/Considerations

Optical media that arrive stacked on their original “cakebox” spindle need to be separated and cased individually. Optical media should be stored upright, on the spine of the disc case. Because it is difficult to affix a label to the spine of the disc case, affix the ID to the face of the case. If using a sleeve, Tyvek is preferred to paper. Store in cool storage, such as at the LSC. Do not freeze.

At-Minimum Housing

Stand upright in original box or paper sleeve. Optical media can generally cohabit with paper without any issues.

Typical Housing

House in specialty boxes sized for optical media or in individual Tyvek envelopes.

High-End Housing

Place discs in archival optical media containers. House in specialty boxes sized for optical media.
