Welcome

Welcome to the website for The Stetl and Beyond: An Embedded Travel Course!  This is the travel blog for the two-weeks (May 13 – 28, 2017) students are spending in Poland and Lithuania, thanks to a generous gift from the Lauder Family Foundation. During our time abroad, we will visit key historical sites pertaining to Jewish life and history in Kraków, Poland, and Vilnius, Lithuania, as well as an excursion to Auschwitz.  We will then spend one week in the Lithuanian village of Siluva restoring the Jewish cemetery which was destroyed during World War Two.  In Siluva, we will be working in partnership with the local community and students to ensure ongoing care for the cemetery.

We invite you to continue visiting the website as we update during our travels!

UPDATE  by LAURA LIEBER and BETH HOLMGREN on April 29, 2017:

We depart in two weeks!!  We look forward to seeing everyone at the orientation meeting tomorrow — bring your questions, but also think back to what you knew (and what you didn’t know) back at the beginning of January.  We’ve already had quite the journey!
