I am fascinated by the question of what it means to be human and thus, work at the intersections of neuroscience, linguistics, music, and human rights. Academically, I’m pursuing Graduation with Distinction in Duke’s Pediatric Brain Tumor Lab and aspire to a career as a physician-scientist in pediatric neuro-oncology. Extracurricularly, I am the president of Duke’s wind symphony and Coalition for Preserving Memory. I care deeply about bringing joy and empowerment to every person’s voice. My most interdisciplinary projects emerged from my time in St. Petersburg (Neuroscience & Multilingualism study abroad) and two recent independent studies: one on the metaphors for cancer in Nazi Germany, and one on an expressive writing intervention with pediatric patients at Duke Children’s. STEAM work is invaluable to me because we exist in a fundamental triangle of arts, science, and humanity – and I cannot imagine my Duke experience without being allowed to integrate the three!
