I work in the Arts and Media here at Duke and try to focus art around holistic wellness. My background focuses on the cross-section of Theatre and Gender, and in exploring protests and political movements as forms of art, particularly notions of performance art. At Duke I help facilitate the coordination of student STEAM projects, and help students navigate the tough feelings that existing in both the art and science worlds can sometimes cause. This work is important for me because science and art have always existed in tandem. You can’t art without science, and you can’t science without art. I think oftentimes students feel like they have to choose between the two disciplines and find that it is hard to pursue both fields, while navigating conflicting class schedules, rehearsals and performances, the everyday rigors of a “Duke student”, and so much more. I want folks to feel like they can exist authentically, and holistically, within their STEAM journeys and hope to act as support, liaison, and advocate for the STEAM work that students are pursuing.
