Website Description:

I’m an Ecologist by trade, an activist and communicator at heart, and have used my passion for nature as the primary muse for all forms of artistic expression, from the literary/journalistic to the visual. The work I do attempts to weave together the socio-economic, political, and scientific underpinnings of environmental conservation and the inherent beauty of Mother Earth, presenting these concepts in a simple, understandable format. For four years now, I’ve done this through the curation of the Enviro-Art Gallery, which hopes to give a humanistic, creative perspective on ecosystem function and our impact on the planet. STEAM is important to me because art and the environment are the two constants in my life, communities that have sustained me intellectually and creatively since I was little. I believe in art’s ability to act as a call-to-action bringing attention to this cause which becomes more pressing with each passing day.

The Enviro-Art Gallery is an annual showcase of student and professional artwork which highlights the beauties and struggles of our natural world; with community input the gallery works to connect people to Mother Earth and our own impact, giving necessary visual context to people who may not otherwise think about conservation. The showcase, now in its fourth year, has taken place in Virginia and North Carolina and will take place on Duke’s campus and on the Gold Coast, Australia for 2020 with significant potential for global distribution in future years.
