Seven Days in an Alternate Reality

by Caroline Breaux.

Last semester I picked up a large stack of old magazines (from the 60s/70s) from The Scrap Exchange that I had used for a different project and they, once again, inspired me for this project. My design consists of a series of collage postcards for each day in the same retro/vintage style found in the magazines. The scenes depicted in the postcards are abnormal and offer a look at one’s travels in thisnew reality.I “cut out” the images from various magazine pages in Photoshop and layered them until I achieved the desired fictional scene. After completing the cards, I wanted to then make them come to life by using stop motion (also done in Photoshop)so that the front and back of the postcards could be showcased in a cohesive way that made sense. The “jittery” motion of the video adds to the fact that these pieces are all taken from various sources and adds to the strange world I have created.

DAY 1 –  “ALONG THE HIGHWAY”
DAY 2 – “THE GREAT OUTDOORS”
DAY 3 – “CONSTRUCTION ZONE”
DAY 4 – “WHAT IS FOR DINNER”

DAY 6 – “A NEW TYPE OF EXHIBIT”
DAY 7 – “ENDLESS CHANNELS”
