OIT Software Licensing

We have sold out of licensing for Articulate Storyline 2, and as of June 3, 2015, we will no longer be offering discounted licensing for this product.  This decision was made due to a slow turnaround of licenses and the challenges of reselling perpetual licenses to recover costs.  This software may still be purchased at the standard academic discount of 50% off directly through the Articulate website.  

Anyone who has purchased a license with PMP will retain support and maintenance privileges, including the free upgrade to Storyline 3 when it is available.  OIT has kept records of all Storyline purchases and will be able to assist with the upgrade if needed.

OIT Software Licensing has purchased an upgrade to EMCO Remote Installer.

The renewal license for Stat/Transfer 13 is available.

Stat/Transfer 13 is available as a free download for all Duke faculty, staff, and students. The software is centrally funded by OIT. The new licenses will extend the expiration date of the software to June 30, 2016.

Our annual license for IBM SPSS Statistics has been renewed, and all licenses purchased between today and May 1, 2016 will expire on July 31, 2016.  If you purchased a license between May 1, 2015 and today, you have been sent renewal authorization codes by e-mail that may be used to extend the expiration date of your software.

There are a several important changes to the license this year:

1. SPSS Statistics 23 has been released and is now available as the default version.
2. Home use is now allowed.  If you purchase a license that you will be using off campus, please e-mail OIT Software Licensing so that we can keep accurate records and purchase the proper level of coverage next year.
3. Virtualization is no longer allowed.  SPSS Statistics through the Duke site license may not be installed on a virtual machine and accessed remotely.  The virtualization option made up about 20% of the license cost, and we did not have evidence of widespread virtual use.  Please contact OIT Software Licensing if this change has a major impact on your teaching or research.
4. The license has been upgraded from SPSS Statistics Desktop to SPSS Statistics Premium.  With this change, the license now includes the following products:

IBM SPSS Statistics licenses are available for purchase through OIT for $75 per computer per year.  Visit the OIT site to purchase SPSS licensing.

We are coming up on three months prior to the expiration of several items, and the beginning of the grace periods will be as follows:

• Stata/SE: 4/23/2015-7/23/2015
• PDF Studio Pro: 4/30/15-7/30/2015
• SPSS Statistics: 5/1/2015-7/31/2015

Software purchased during the grace period will include a free renewal.  For example, if you purchase a license for Stata/SE on 4/23/15, it will expire in 3 months, but you will be sent a renewal file to extend the expiration date to 7/23/16 when it is available.

There is no grace period for TreeAge Pro.  Renewal licenses can be pre-ordered, but there can be no new license purchases until after the current license expires.

With the release of 2015b, the MathWorks aggregated several toolboxes.  This reduced the number of products on our license, and we were able to add a new toolbox at no additional cost.

A few weeks ago, we launched a survey to determine which product would be added, and the one with the most votes was the Robotics System Toolbox.  This was added to the license today, and Duke faculty and staff may now log into their MathWorks accounts and download it.
