In collaboration with Duke Web Services, the OIT Software website has been redesigned, and some new features have been introduced.
eCommerce: We are pleased to announce the addition of eCommerce to the website! This will allow Duke users to purchase software licenses through OIT online with a credit card. Once the credit card payment has been processed, the website will redirect to a download page automatically where the software can be accessed. There is no longer the need to place an order, wait for instructions, pay, and then wait for your software if paying with a credit card. The process for purchasing with IR or check will remain the same.
Reference Pages: On the sidebar of the OIT Software website, you will see a section titled ‘Licensing Reference’. There, one can find detailed licensing, support, and product information for site licenses managed by OIT. This will help clarify many specific questions since exact contract language is listed for site licensed products.
For a less detailed view, one can visit the quick reference table to quickly view license restrictions, price, and expiration dates for most site-licensed products. Also available on this submenu is the full software list. Individual links have been removed in order to help ensure that software is not accessed by unauthorized individuals, which helps improve compliance.
Fixed affiliation search: When users search for software through the application, their affiliations will be fixed in the ‘I am:’ box and will only be able to view authorized software. In instances of dual affiliation, the dominant, not primary, affiliation will be displayed so that the maximum amount of software will be displayed in searches. For example, someone with student/staff credentials will search as ‘staff’.
Improved Download/Purchase History: on the index page, under ‘view software you have ordered‘, users can now directly access software they have previously downloaded or purchased. This should help reduce the number of unnecessary, duplicate orders in the system for free software (for example, re-ordering the software after downloading to get the authorization code) as well as allow those purchasing multiple licenses with a credit card to access the software without having to keep the browser window open forever or purchase again. This is necessary for software purchased online with a credit card since there will no longer be an e-mail sent with license and download information.
These improvements have been a long time in the making and are in response to helpful feedback provided by the Duke community. We welcome additional feedback and suggestions and hope that you find these new features helpful.
