The Puzzle of Thought

In this piece, the brain is a complex organ that allows us to interpret the world around us. Santita decided to focus on language, more specifically, a bilingual English and Spanish speaker, and the balance necessary to survive.

About the Artist: Santita Ebangwese

Santita Ebangwese was born to immigrant parents one early morning in January, in Rochester, New York. She gravitated towards the sciences but loved to doodle, and this piece is a doodle brought to life.

As a person who has lived in a country where people speak a language that is not her own, she understands the sentiments of people who have experienced the same. The constant need to translate everything to the native language and back to foreign one can be overwhelming. Throughout this past year, I was introduced to Ms. R. She was born and raised in El Salvador, and she recently emigrated to the United States where she takes cares of her two kids, a toddler and a middle schooler. It was my pleasure to get to know her family and her life experiences. I empathized with her difficulty with navigating in a new and difficult language.
