One thing you gotta do before you leave Duke. Here’s your chance.
Sunday September 23rd at 4:00 pm.
Meetin’ up on Monday, 9/17 at 7:30pm in the Multicultural Center (at the very bottom floor of the Bryan Center).
We’ll be going over the role of a Physical Therapist and what it takes to become one… and of course introduce our awesome officers & Rosie 🙂
Kickin’ off the year by recruiting some new members to the organization! Takes place on East Campus from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Hey everyone! Make sure to get the SPORTS MED PANEL on your calendars! This is an event that represents many health professions involved in Sports Medicine. This spring’s panel will represent an MD, DO, PA, and DPT (all Duke alumni!)
The panel will be held on Wed, 4/11 at 7:30 in the K Center classroom on the 2nd floor. The K Center is on West Campus, behind Cameron.
Stay tuned for info about a possible Pre-PT dinner at the Loop before this event!
As promised, here is the contact information for the four PT residents/fellows that were represented at the panel on Monday night. Thanks to all who came out for it!
Ever wondered what you can do with PT? Interested in learning more about working with kids or athletes? Make sure to get this one on your calendars!
On Monday, 2/27 from 7:30-9pm in the Multicultural Center, the Duke Pre-PT Association is hosting a PT Panel of Residents, who are going to talk to us about some of the different areas of physical therapy- specifically, pediatrics, sports, orthopedics, and manual therapy. Come with an open mind and lots of questions for them!
Hey, Pre-PT! Interested in Global Health? Mark your calendars for an exciting event coming up- a PT Global Panel! Come hear from physical therapists who have had the opportunity to practice in other countries, and ask them questions about their experiences.
The panel will be on Monday, 11/28 at 7:30pm in the Resource Room of the Multicultural Center (in the BC). See you there!
Hi, Pre-PT! Please see the message below about the MASSAGE NIGHT TONIGHT in Blackwell South Common Room… we’d love for you to come out and help, or check out PT for the first time!
Hi All- See the following message from Kristi Duke, a PT at Lenox Baker. If you’re interested, e-mail Kristi at duke0009@mc.duke.edu. If you can’t get through with that address, e-mail Rosie at rcc4@duke.edu!
The Differing Abilities Class, as its name indicates, is for kids with a wide-range of dance and movement abilities. There will be ~11 children total – 3-4 of them have very significant impairments of movement (quadriplegic CP); ~ 2-3 of them have more sensory-based movement issues; and ~2-3 of them are “typically developing” (don’t you just love that phrase… as if anybody is typical!). The children range in age from 2-8 years.
The class begins this Sat. Sept 10. It will run 4-6 weeks (was originally going to be just 4, but I am now inviting several guest artists – percussion, yoga, fencing, hip hop, zumba, flamenco…. My idea is for a guest artist to join us each week in addition to the regular teacher, who is a modern/ballet dancer).
I will be there every week as the coordinator, and will be able to move around the studio assisting you with the children as needed.
If you are able to do one of those weeks, or two, or any number at all, I greatly welcome your presence. I need to have ~5-6 dancers’ assistants (that’s you!) each week.
The class is scheduled for 915-10. I would like the dancers’ assistants to arrive at 9 so that we can talk about the best ways of assisting the children that day and assign dancers’ assistants to each child as needed. Some will need 1:1 help, and others will need less.
The class will be held at Barriskill Dance Theatre School on Shannon Road in Durham. If you need a ride, I’d be happy to pick you up (one of you mentioned having no car). Easiest for me if I could get you from the PT school (that is, from Erwin Square) or from Lenox Baker.
