Every student at Duke must have medical insurance. Duke sponsors a reasonable medical insurance plan (United Healthcare), and the Graduate School will pay for each graduate student’s health insurance, provided that the student chooses the Duke-sponsored plan. If you prefer, you may acquire a different insurance policy privately (International students are required to have the Duke plan). However, you must provide proof to the Bursar’s office that you are covered by an adequate medical insurance policy. Furthermore, the cost of any plan other than the Duke-sponsored plan will not be covered by the Graduate School.
A dental plan is also available. You will be notified by email from the Bursar’s Office about how to sign up for your Duke coverage. Any specific questions about coverage or services provided can be found at the student health website.
