Dr. Jonas Swartz: I have cared for families who have traveled from other states because abortion now is restricted. They have traveled to get an abortion in the setting of fetal anomalies. And they have articulated during their visit for the abortion, “We don’t believe in abortion in all circumstances, but our circumstance is different.” You want to respond, “Well, why don’t you think about it? The reason that you just traveled across state lines and had to drive six to eight hours to see me is that you are so focused on your circumstance. This care restricts everyone. So I don’t care if you don’t believe in it. You need it too.” I don’t think people make that connection.
