Interviewer: So what are the differences between working internationally and working in the U.S.? Do you see a crazy difference, or are things pretty similar?
Susan Yanow: The differences are that there’s much more of an effort to criminalize people here. There’s much more surveillance here. The U.S. is one of the few countries that actually has the capacity to get into people’s electronics and to surveil in a pretty thorough way. And the anti-abortion movement is strong in other countries, but it’s funded through here. All the ideas come out of the U.S. So it’s like the movement is on steroids here in a way that isn’t quite as strong in other countries.
