Dr. Nisha Verma: One of the things that was frustrating when I came from Boston to Georgia was the amount of time I had to spend with logistical challenges even before our 6-week ban. So before every abortion case in the hospital, I would have to email the OR staff, nursing staff, make sure I had anesthesia, make sure I had staff that were comfortable in participating. So there were a lot of logistical challenges– even having to do peer-to-peers. There were things we had to deal with even before the 6-week ban that I did not have to deal with in Massachusetts. It’s definitely gotten worse. So now there’s a lot of additional– trying to navigate that confusion where you see a patient, like does this qualify? I don’t know. Is this person sick enough? Is this fetal anomaly bad enough? And so having to go to the task force and have those discussion and try to figure out, does this meet the exception instead of just being able to provide the care, I think is really tough. At the same time, I think it is a good system that we have to navigate a really terrible law. But it’s frustrating that we have to do it.
