Dr. Katherine Farris: I literally had patients saying to me, “Please, please. Can you just please, I’ll say I got it.” And I have to say no. I can’t help this one patient and jeopardize the thousands of other patients that I personally see or anyone in my affiliate sees. We are at a point right now where I follow the rules. So, I have to follow the rules to make sure that I don’t jeopardize my entire organization’s ability to provide the care, but also because I don’t want to feed into the stigma that, “abortion providers don’t follow rules,” or that, “abortion providers need extra regulations.” A lot of that comes from thinking that we are not real doctors or real health care providers, and we are. We don’t need extra laws. We understand scope of practice. We understand consent. We follow the rules that every health care provider follows, but I also follow the extra ridiculous, medically unnecessary laws, to protect my ability to continue providing care and to stay free.
