Clinical training on abortion was already lacking prior to the Dobbs decision, with many medical students reporting dissatisfaction with available opportunities. In states with new restrictions, this pattern will worsen, since students training in these states will not be exposed to comprehensive abortion care. States with abortion bans or gestational age limits have already seen a decrease in OBGYN and family medicine residency applicants post-Dobbs. Since most residents go on to work in the state in which they train, these trends have vast implications for the future availability of reproductive health services.
