Dr. Katherine Farris: We try to reach out to anyone who is coming from far away to see what resources they need. Once they’ve scheduled an appointment with us, we’ve got resources. We just try to help as much as we can. And my hope is that that money doesn’t dry up, because the reality is, and we’ve said this all along, wealthy people will always get their abortions. They will always get their abortions. Once you don’t have that privilege, then you are much more likely to be harmed by these laws. People of color are much more likely to be harmed, not only by their access to abortion– it is much harder to get access to abortion if you are poor, if you are living in a more rural area, if you are a person of color– but then add the layer that a Black woman in this country is four times more likely to die in childbirth than a white woman, all other things being equal. The harm, it’s just– it’s hard for me to even express how large the harm is.
