Dr. Jonas Swartz: I think my response would be, a compromise between what and what? The current North Carolina situation is a compromise between something and something. This is a compromise. It’s a compromise that is between the Republicans about just how far they were willing to go. But it’s not a compromise that fits North Carolinian wishes. There’s multiple polls now showing that about 6 out of 10 North Carolinians prefer either no change to the law or more liberal laws, removal of barriers. The issue is that the polls that the Republicans are citing, first of all, I’ve done research showing that people don’t know the abortion laws in their state. And so you’re not giving the right context. If I ask the question by saying to you, “Most European countries restrict care at 12 weeks, do you think that would be reasonable for North Carolina?” That is going to elicit a different answer than asking freeform whether you support– so the polling’s complicated, but you also have to consider that most of the polling is showing this level of support, not showing that anybody supports this 12-week ban.
